District Committees
General Information

Prior to 1 Oct 2005, there were 42 standing District committees, for most of which the only member was the Chair, and seven staff positions.  The Shaping initiative of 2004, consolidated the functions of the standing committees and reduced the number of committees to 25, each with members from across the District and reduced the number of staff positions to five.  Since then, the Board established a Key Leader Committee.  For 2007-08, two additional committees have been added:
- District Project Committee to focus on the Governor's Project of Childhood Obesity
- International President's Visit Committee to coordinate International President Dave Curry's visit to  the Capital    District in Jan 2008.

There are three types of District Committees:
- Policy Formulation Committees that work with the District Board to develop and analyze District Policy options
- Club Support Committees with two main functions.  They work with the Board to provide information and policy suggestions in their area and they work with Lt Governors and Club Presidents to strengthen existing clubs and build new ones.
- District Support Groups which provide various kinds of services for the District.

In general, committee members serve three year terms and Committee Chairs have at least one year of experience on the committee before becoming the Chair.
