Gov. Riley Bio

Arthur (Art) N. Riley, Past Lt. Governor, with the support of his home Club of Westminster, Maryland and the Ninth Division, has filed a letter of intention with the District Office to be a Candidate for Governor-Elect of the Capital District at the 2006 District Convention.  Educated in the Maryland Public Schools and at the University of Maryland, Art has been a practicing pharmacist for 35 years.  Following a residency in hospital pharmacy administration at the Johns Hopkins Hospital his professional career has included Associate Director of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland Hospital, owner of a community pharmacy specializing in home health care and home infusion and Director of EMA Pharmacy that serves nursing homes, Assisted Living facilities, and retirement communities.

Personally, Art and his wife, Vickie, have lived in Westminster during their 33-year marriage and are the proud parents of three adult children, Aileen, Kimberly, and Kevin.  In addition to Kiwanis, community service has included participation on several non-profit boards.  In October 2005, he was honored for 10 years of service to The Partnership for a Healthier Carroll County, a local non-profit that promotes health awareness and community health.  Art also serves as a certified lay speaker at his church and has served on many church committees.

A Key Club past Lieutenant Governor, Art joined the Kiwanis Club of Westminster, Maryland in 1980 and has served in many capacities including committee chairs, fund raising efforts, club Secretary and President (1983-84).  During his two terms as Lieutenant Governor (2003-05), he emphasized club visitations, utilized these visitations to promote Kiwanis Objectives, and assisted in forming an Aktion Club in Westminster.  Service at the District level has included service on the Reshaping initiative and the promotion of that initiative, present Chair of the Policy and By-Laws Committee and Circle K Zone Administrator.  In addition to official appointments, he has attended numerous Key Club events and Key Club Conventions (both District and International).

As Governor “Art” has stated that his goals will be centered around his passion for sponsored organizations by encouraging greater participation of Kiwanians in Circle K, Key Club and Aktion Club activities, as well as focus on expanding Builders Clubs and K-Kids programs.  These sponsored youth initiatives are essential to the continued strength of Kiwanis.  Other goals include strengthening existing Kiwanis Clubs by working to attract all citizens to Kiwanis.  Attraction of new members can be accomplished through promoting the positive face of Kiwanis throughout the community.

Throughout his life, Art has proven his dedication and commitment not only to his family and his work, but also to the community activities that has chosen to become involved in.  As Governor, you can expect nothing less than 100% commitment from Art to the Capital District Kiwanis Family and to his vision of continued Kiwanis success.
