  WHO ARE WE?

Capital District Kiwanis is an extended family with more than 23,000 members spread over Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.  We are part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child, one community at a time.

These Are Our Values

The Six Permanent Objects of Kiwanis International:

Approved by Kiwanis club delegates at the 1924 Convention in Denver, Colorado. Through the succeeding decades, they have remained unchanged.

  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.
  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
  • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
  • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
  • To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

This is what we want to do

Mission Statement:

The Capital District of Kiwanis International is committed to be the leading worldwide service organization by providing the highest quality of support and service to our communities in an efficient and effective manner. By promoting membership growth; increasing communication; improving education and training; participating with our sponsored youth and continuing "hands on" service to all those in need, we will improve lives throughout the district and the world, as well as enriching the "Kiwanis Experience" for each and every member.

Vision Statement:

Capital District Kiwanis will set the Standard of Excellence in Community Service by continuing to build a better world through a climate of compassion, respect and teamwork. Every Kiwanian should strive to build a membership that values and insures integrity, diversity and creativity in meeting the challenges of the Twenty First Century. We must participate in quality service locally and globally, provide innovative leadership at all levels, build our youth for the future and make membership in Kiwanis a meaningful and rewarding experience.

Diversity Statement:

Capital District Kiwanis International defines Diversity as that which encourages collaboration and participation from different backgrounds, experiences, regions, and perspectives for achieving excellence in District endeavors ranging from membership growth to community service within the K-Family.

Capital District Kiwanis embraces diversity as an opportunity to create a distinctive organization always striving for innovative and collaborative ways in providing the finest community service to the people of the Capital District.  This can only be achieved through sustaining an inclusive and diverse environment that mirrors the community at large from which we recruit our membership.  Our Diversity Statement is maintained through:

  • Promoting inclusiveness

  • Creating an environment of open communication

  • Sustaining respect

  • Supporting collaboration and cooperation

  • Encouraging broad participation

  • Appreciating and understanding differences and perspectives
